Devlog #2: Motivate Progress & Beta 1.0 Announcement
July 7, 2025
Progress Update
I’m excited to share that the core mechanics for Motivate are officially locked in! Over the past few weeks I’ve fleshed out player movement, health, and weapon systems, sound and music implementation, saving and loading, basic settings, and the foundational combat loop.
What’s Left
- Weapons: I’ll be adding a variety of new gear from snipers, to water bottles.
- Enemies & Bosses: A small variety of foes is on deck, capped off by at least one major boss encounter in Beta 1.0.
- Levels: Level design will be the main focus of future content with majority of this development coming from future live-streams, more on that later!
Setting Expectations
Motivate began as my personal sandbox for learning and mastering GameMaker Studio. It’s not intended as my flagship title but rather a playground to experiment with mechanics I’ll carry into future projects. Think of this Beta as both a proof of concept and a live tutorial. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how systems evolve from prototype to polished build.
Beta 1.0 Release Date
I’m targeting July 18, 2025 for the official launch of Motivate Version: Beta 1.0. This build will include the first few weapons, enemy types, one boss, and a sample of at least five levels to give everyone a taste of the combat loop and exploration style. The game will be available through itch.io, and will be completely free! More on this next week!
Future Streaming & Community
Starting soon, I’ll be going live regularly on Twitch & Youtube and posting full-length dev videos on YouTube, details on schedule to come very soon. I’m also pulling together a Discord server where you can discuss development progress, suggest new mechanics, get notified the moment a new stream or video drops, or just stay and chat!
